What is this "plate" business?
Chris and Ella did not register for china or other tableware. Instead they are asking that you bring a plate. Just one per invitation. Their idea is that they would like a set of plates that reflects the diverse backgrounds and interests of everyone they call friend. They ask that you bring a plate that either reminds you of them, would remind them of you, or something that you just know they'd really like. A "plate" may actually be a dinner plate, a saucer, or a soup bowl. Single plates can be purchased at any department store, Goodwill, or a special treat would be to gift a plate from your own set from home.
What is the dress code for the reception?
The official dress code for the reception is semi-formal. Due to the large number of professional haunted house actors that will be attending, costumes will also be allowed, with exception: Those who decide to come in costume must remember that the rest of the guests at the reception did NOT pay to go through a haunted house and are not expecting to be frightened. If you come in costume, you will be held accountable for your actions.
Why does my invitation only list the information for the reception?
Since our venue for the ceremony is so small, and also because it will occur late at night, only immediate family and the bridal party is attending. However, we'll have much more room at our reception, where we hope you'll join us.
Why are the ceremony and reception so far apart?
The Halloween season is really tough on those who work in haunted houses. We needed to give Chris and some of our special guests extra time to close the attraction for the winter season and to recover from the exertions of the job.
Will alcohol be served at the reception?
Due to budget constraints, we will only be offering non-alcoholic beverages. Due to the location of the party, the venue may provide a cash bar with guests paying for their own alcoholic beverages.
Does the site allow smoking?
The Polish Center does not allow smoking indoors, but the ballroom does have doors that lead directly outside to a patio where the activity is permitted.
Should we wear costumes? Will Chris being making costumes or doing make-up for the guests?
While we will be in special garb for the ceremony, the reception will be a simpler occasion with guests only asked to attend in semi-formal attire. And with as large as guest list as we have, I don't think we'd be able to get everyone in costume or in make-up for the afternoon. Plus, this is part of our wedding, so Chris won't be working during the event itself.
However, if you wish to attend in a costume of your own creation, you'll still be welcomed. But be warned that you will still be held responsible for your behavior. The other guests are here to attend a wedding celebration, not a haunted house.
Where are you registered?
Chris and I have registered at Target and Circuit City. Both of these lists can be accessed at target.com and circuitycity.com. Due to economic issues, the latter only has an online store and can only be browsed on the internet.
Instead of registering for china, we invite our guests to select any item of dinnerware they feel is reflective of us, or they can choose any piece they think we might like, or that they like. Feel to choose from sources from department stores to outlets to resale stores or even yard sales.
What about parking?
There will be ample free parking at the Polish Center.
Is the venue handicapped accessible?
Don't worry. The building is modern and has been designed with ease of accessibility in mind. There are no stairs required to reach the ballroom. The bathrooms can accommodate those with disabilities and are located very close to the party. There are also elevators if anyone wishes to bypass the stairs to see the second floor of the venue.
